    New Year in Tokyo

    Jan 8, 08:21 PM

Well, I’m back from Tokyo and still recovering from jet lag. While the last trip I made to Japan was a one week whirlwind introduction to the country this trip was more my speed. After a long flight with a stopover in Dallas, a two hour bus ride (complete with traffic jam delays) from the airport, a meet up with Asako in Shinjuku, and a 10 minute taxi ride to Asako’s parent’s house near Shibuya and I was there. Back to New York City

The rest of the trip was spent visiting many of Asako’s high school friends, shopping, and making the rounds visiting family. I imagine that the sprawling unchecked growth of Tokyo and the fact that it only takes a few turns to get lost is the main reason GPS guided maps are standard in the dashboards of cars and taxis. Try as I might, I still can’t seem to remember the short walk from the various nearby subway stops to the house.

    Finishing up in Kyoto

    Apr 13, 08:13 PM

In the morning we woke up and had a Japanese style breakfast. This consists of pretty much the opposite of everything I would think to eat in the morning: pickled seaweed covered in little dried fish, soybeans, pork miso soup, and tea among others.

    It's Suntory Time

    Apr 11, 10:08 PM

We took off from JFK on Saturday afternoon and landed in Tokyo on Sunday evening after a 4 hour delay courtesy of American Airlines. The non-stop flight was surprisingly tolerable. Sunday evening in Tokyo’s subway system wasn’t overwhelming at all.
